Excellent in every way. It will change the way you write – anything! It will change the way you watch movies, the way you listen to people, maybe even the way you interact with people.

HIGHLY. I recommend this class highly. You’ll see really concrete ways to improve your dialogue, and you’ll see your existing dialog in new ways. Be prepared, though. To get the most out of this class you should spend the time to really work through the lessons…90-120 minutes a day. It’s not an easy A, but it’s genuine professional training at a fairly high level.

I just wanted to thank you for the dialogue class. I enjoyed it; I especially liked the area of subtext. I liked the clarity and the application that adds depth and meaning. Something I need to imbibe my brain in. I also enjoyed the colorful dialogue. Anytime a writer can color a character through their dialogue, it makes that character pop. This increases the chances that your script will be noticed, not just by producers, but actors looking for that magic part that raises their credibility, making them attractive for stronger parts, notable mantras and higher pay. Thanks. Karen Crider

I like having a list of dialogue tactics to reference when writing screenplays. I’d recommend this to anyone whether writing fiction or screenplays as a way to keep dialogue from being on the nose and demonstrating the interpersonal dynamics of the characters.

The clarity on the concept that every line of dialogue must resonate with a core character trait for that character was extremely “ah-ha” in it’s simplicity. The clear use of MODELS for every aspect of dialogue writing and evaluation and the way all the concepts are broken down and delineated is brilliant. It’s the best and most useful instruction I have seen. Complex creative problems are broken down and organized in comprehensible building blocks that then add up to a solid, well-built structure.
Information is organized in do-able pieces that fit together into a successful whole vision of the creative problem of screenwriting. The complex task of conveying emotion and vision in a condensed blueprint has been so carefully thought through by Hal and his team that it’s a pleasure to engage in every lesson. No dogma and goofy theories. No negative, oppressive cult of personality. Hal presents a realistic and clear-eyed view of creating a creative product and presenting it in a competitive marketplace.
The corporate training model of breaking down screenwriting is brilliant. As a veteran of the industry I find Hal’s instruction deeply thought through, solid and easy to immediately put into practice, step by step. The impact on my writing has been striking. I appreciate Hal’s positive attitude and respect for his students. In an industry where the opposite often prevails, Hal’s honorably upbeat, practical craftsmanship approach is refreshing.

Yes, I recommend this class, especially if they were struggling with writing dialog or unaware of what problems they may be having.

I was already a repped writer when I decided to take this class. I can honestly say that this is the best dialogue advice I’ve ever come across. After finishing the course, I was able to option 3 screenplays which are all in active development, and one has a director and actor attached. Highly recommended
